Is a Cement Silo Just a "Storage Tank"? How Does UNIK Make Powder Storage a Stable Starting Point for the Production Line?
In the planning of many block plants, the cement silo is often regarded as a "simple storage container" – as long as it can hold cement and feed powder into the batching scale via a screw conveyor, its mission is considered complete. However, in actual production, the discharging stability of the silo directly determines whether batching accuracy can be realized, whether block strength can remain stable, and whether the production line can operate continuously. In UNIK Machinery's fully automatic block production line, the cement silo and its supporting systems are treated as a key control node in the overall line design. Every link, from storage to conveying, is designed to guarantee the precision and continuity of the next process.
1. Silo Cone Angle and Discharge Outlet Design: Laying the Structural Foundation for Smooth Discharging
The cone angle of UNIK's cement silo is specifically optimized to ensure that powder can slide smoothly to the discharge outlet under gravity, reducing the structural risk of arching. The discharge outlet size is matched to the feeding capacity of the downstream screw conveyor, avoiding flow fluctuations caused by an outlet that is too large or too small. Silo capacity can be flexibly configured according to the customer's production scale and cement supply cycle – from small-capacity silos for single-shift production to large configurations with multiple parallel silos, all can be customized.
2. Arch-Breaking System: From Passive Unclogging to Actively Ensuring Discharging Continuity
UNIK's silo system is equipped with pneumatic arch-breaking devices. Arch breakers are installed on the cone section to destroy possible material arch structures through the instantaneous release of compressed air. For projects with poor cement flowability or high ambient humidity, an upgraded flow-monitoring linked arch-breaking system can be configured – when the flow sensor at the discharge outlet detects an abnormal drop, it automatically triggers the arch breaker to break up clumps and restore discharging. This mechanism upgrades arch breaking from "manual inspection-triggered" to "automatic system response," effectively reducing the interference of discharge interruptions with batching accuracy.
3. Coordination Between Silo and Batching Scale: Accuracy Is Guaranteed from the Source
UNIK commissions and optimizes the silo discharging system and the electronic weighing system of the batching station as a whole. The stability of the silo's discharging flow is the precondition for batching accuracy to function – only when the powder flow is predictable and controllable can the batching station's drop compensation algorithm accurately calculate the weight of material in the air, keeping batching accuracy stable within ±2%. This "silo-conveying-batching" coordinated design concept is one of the core differences that distinguishes UNIK's complete line solutions from "equipment pieced together."
4. Environmental Supporting Equipment: Dust Removal and Safety in the Powder Storage Stage
During the feeding (pneumatic conveying) process, the cement silo generates a large amount of suspended dust. UNIK's silo system is equipped with a silo-top dust collector to filter and collect dust generated during feeding, reducing pollution to the surrounding environment. A safety valve (pressure relief valve) is also installed on the top of the silo to prevent overpressure risks caused by dust collector blockage or abnormal blowing pressure. For projects with higher environmental requirements, online level monitoring and high-level alarm devices can be added to achieve linked control of feeding and dust removal.
5. Silo Supporting Practices in Global Projects
In the complete line projects delivered by UNIK, the cement silo, as the starting point of the production line, has been implemented along with fully automatic block production lines in many countries and regions across Southeast Asia, Africa, and the Middle East. From the fully automatic production line in Ghana to the complete line project in Cambodia, UNIK's silos and batching systems provide reliable guarantees for customers' block strength consistency and production continuity through stable discharging performance.
Global customers are welcome to contact UNIK Machinery to obtain customized silo and batching system solutions tailored to your production scale and cement type.
