When Recycled Materials Go Online, How Does UNIK Handle It?
Recycled aggregate, stone powder, crushed construction waste – when customers decide to put "unconventional raw materials" into their block production lines, the question facing the equipment is not "can it be formed," but whether it can keep the strength of every batch of bricks above the qualification line under conditions of continuous raw material fluctuation. In its complete-line design, UNIK Machinery treats raw material fluctuation as an input condition for process design, rather than as an abnormal condition to be compensated for after the fact.
1. Batching End: Reserving a Correction Channel for "Water Absorption"
The PL series batching station and mixing water supply system from UNIK reserve an interface for aggregate moisture content/water absorption correction in the control logic. When customers use recycled aggregate, the mixing water amount can be compensated on a batch-by-batch basis in recipe management according to the measured water absorption of the aggregate, rather than relying on the operator to "add water by eye" at the mixer. The electronic weighing system, which maintains batching accuracy within ±2%, provides an executable foundation for this correction – if the weighing of the aggregate itself is fluctuating, water correction loses its meaning.
2. Forming End: Vibration Parameters Follow the Aggregate
The vibration system and PLC control program of UNIK's block forming machine support multiple sets of process recipe management. When production switches from natural aggregate to recycled aggregate, operators can call up the corresponding vibration frequency, amplitude, and pressing parameter recipes, rather than using the same set of parameters to "handle everything." For recycled aggregate with higher crushing values, the system can adjust vibration time and pressing curves to ensure density while reducing excessive crushing of the aggregate.
3. The "First Move" at the Raw Material End: Stone Powder Utilization in the Sri Lanka Project
In the fully automatic production line project in Colombo, Sri Lanka, UNIK's complete-line solution directly uses quarry by-product – stone powder – as one of the main raw materials, with an annual consumption of approximately 60,000 tons, replacing river sand extraction. The core of this project is not "using waste material," but that the process parameters of the entire line, from batching and mixing to forming, were matched around the particle size distribution and water demand characteristics of stone powder at the time of delivery. Stable production with unconventional raw materials relies on writing raw material characteristics into the process from the design stage, rather than "slowly adjusting" after production starts.
4. From Single Machine to Complete Line: Fluctuating Raw Materials Require System Response
The fluctuations brought by recycled aggregate cannot be absorbed by a single workstation. UNIK's complete-line control logic manages the parameters of batching, mixing, and forming as a linked system: when aggregate water absorption changes, the water-cement ratio and mixing time are adjusted accordingly; when micro-fines content changes, the admixture dosage and vibration parameters are adjusted accordingly. This parameter linkage, starting from raw material characteristics, is far more cost-effective than relying on manual rejection of defective products at the end to "gatekeep."
