From a Brick to an Industry

If you walk into any construction site, you will most likely see a type of concrete block with holes in the middle. It is lighter than solid bricks, offers better thermal insulation, and saves material – this is the hollow block.

The equipment that produces these blocks is called a hollow block forming machine. China is the world's largest production base in this field – contributing more than 40% of global production capacity. Within this industry, several industrial clusters have formed, each with its own focus.

Understanding the differences between these clusters is the first step to finding the right factory.

A good hollow block forming machine relies on three key technical aspects.

The first is the spreading system. The mold cavity of a hollow block has multiple holes, and the material needs to be evenly distributed into every hole. If the spreading is uneven, the finished products will have local weak spots and chipping around the edges of the holes. This is precisely why some factories in Quanzhou have invested heavily in R&D for spreading systems – semi‑enclosed mesh spreading, forced arch‑breaking mechanisms, and centrifugal discharge – all aimed at ensuring uniform material filling.

The second is the vibration system. The density of hollow blocks depends on the coordination of vibration frequency and amplitude. If the frequency is too low, the material won't compact; if it's too high, the mold can be damaged. A good vibration system can automatically adjust the frequency according to different raw materials – low frequency for feeding, high frequency for compaction.

The third is the mold. The shape, size, and wall thickness of the holes in a hollow block are all determined by the mold. A good mold is not only precise but also wear‑resistant – with a service life of 200,000 to 350,000 cycles. This is why factories that have in‑house mold manufacturing capabilities have a greater advantage in the hollow block forming machine field.
